Sheriff Fred Jobe

2010 Republican candidate for Custer County Sheriff

Sheriff Jobe has been a resident of Custer County for 28 years. He has been married to his wife Deloris for 47 years. They have three adult children who all graduated from Custer County High School.

Before being elected Sheriff in 1986, Sheriff Jobe served for two years as Police Chief in Westcliffe. Prior to that he was a lieutenant in the Detective Division of the Chickasha Oklahoma Police Department.

Sheriff Jobe has been a member of numerous clubs and organizations. He has been a board member for the County Sheriff's of Colorado for the past five years.

His Hobbies include Motorcycle riding, drag racing with Beat The Heat, which is a Cops and Kids organization to promote safe driving and racing on the track, not on the streets. It is also active in the fight against adolescent drug use.

He is an active member of his church and loves to sing gospel music. He is also known as the singing Sheriff.

Sheriff Jobe believes that 35 years of active law enforcement experience, 25 of which have been in Custer County, qualifies him to continue in the job as Custer County Sheriff and help make Custer County a safe place to live and raise a family. Because of his caring nature and love for this County and its residents he has chosen to run again for the Office of Sheriff.

My wife Lynette and I have lived in the area for 9 years.  We have two sons, Ryan, a junior at Custer County High and Lane, an eighth grader in Custer County Middle School.  I grew up in a rural community much like Westcliffe, a few miles away in Rye, and have a love for the small community and rural living we are all blessed to share. 

     I currently work for the Canon City Police Department and have been there for nearly 8 years.  I have an Associates of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and serve as a Patrol Sergeant and night shift supervisor for the department.  I also have duties as the training sergeant who oversees all departmental training, I supervise the field training program for newly hired officers, and am a firearms instructor and departmental armorer.  I was also elected as the city employee’s association president, which serves as a liason between the city manager and employees on issues in regards to policy and budget.  In addition to my departmental duties, I teach DUI/DWAI Detection and Standard Field Sobriety Testing techniques for the Central Mountain Training Foundation.  My law enforcement experiences are diverse and I have had extensive training in investigations, interviewing techniques, crime scene management, and supervisory responsibilities within a police organization.

     I am a 7 year Navy veteran as an Electronic Warfare Technician and served two tours of duty in the middle east during the first gulf war.  While in the Navy, I was a workcenter supervisor and Divisional Petty Officer, which also provided me with leadership and management experience and training.

     In addition to my work experience, I have also been involved in the community in numerous ways.  I have coached youth baseball in Custer County for four years and have been an assistant basketball coach for the Custer County High School boys program the past three years.  I am also a volunteer leader through 4-H here in the county and am teaching shooting sports, specifically archery, to local youths.  I am also a committee member for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, an organization dedicated to the conservation of habitat for wildlife.

     I believe I have the experience necessary to lead the Custer County Sheriffs Department into the next decade.  With new ideas and a proactive approach to law enforcement, I look forward to the opportunity to discuss the issues within the county and share my ideas on how the department could move forward in the future.

We have been involved in business here in Custer County for the past 30 years and I have served the community as County Commissioner, Mayor and trustee for the Town of Silver Cliff, the Board of Directors of the Upper Arkansas Area Council of Government, Colorado Municipal League, Custer County representative to Action 22, Custer County Airport Authority, Colorado Department of Transportation Advisory Committee, Colorado Counties Incorporated, Central Front Range Transportation Planning Region and many other Commissions and Boards.

Allen Butler

2010 Republican candidate for Custer County Commisioner

A longtime Valley resident and businessman, Allen Butler was born and raised in Oklahoma. He and his wife, Lynn, moved to the Wet Mountain Valley in 1983, where they own and operate Conoco/Country Store and Mining Company Restaurant.  The couple has two grown children and three grandchildren.   Allen is seeking the Republican nomination for district one Custer County commissioner. In 2001, he was elected mayor of the town of Silver Cliff and prior to that he served as a Silver Cliff trustee for three years.  In addition, for 23 years Allen has served on the county’s airport authority board.  He is currently chairman of that board.    Locally, Allen has served on numerous other boards including Custer County Merchants and Chamber of Commerce and VALI assisted living.  And, for 27 years Allen has been an active member of the Wet Mountain Valley Rotary Club.  Regionally, Allen is a board member with the Upper Arkansas Council of Governments, which is comprised of community leaders from Custer, Freemont, Chaffee and Lake Counties.  The mission of the UAACOG is to provide quality services to families within the region through a number of programs and grant opportunities to communities.  He served as chairman of that board for one year.  Allen’s military service includes service in the U.S. Army and Oklahoma Army National Guard, and he is a member of local American Legion Post 170.

Virginia Trujillo

2010 Republican candidate for Custer County Treasurer

I have lived in Custer County all my life. My wonderful husband Dave and I live on the place my parents bought in 1949. We have two daughters Tami and Cheri. Our fmaily has grown now to four grandchildren which are Desiree, Meagan, Colton, and Gabe.

I have worked in the Treasurer's office for 13 years as a deputy and now as Treasurer. I have enjoyed working with everyone in the courthouse and the community. The job is demanding and it is always changing with the new technology.

     My wife, Monica, and I have lived in Custer County for three years.  We moved from Missouri following my retirement from a public service career in law enforcement.  We are active in the community through our church and in All Aboard Westcliffe.

      I am running for the Office of Treasurer to provide dedicated service to the people of Custer County with a friendly, courteous, and caring attitude.  This office belongs to the people of Custer County and my responsibility will be to meet their needs and requests for service.

        The Treasurer's Office must be operated with the understanding that every dollar collected and spent is allocated according to Colorado State Law and the General Accepted Accounting Principles.  The

        Treasurer has a legal, moral and fiduciary responsibility to assure such practices are followed.  My years of experience in not-for-profit accounting will serve the people of Custer County well.

        I am a fiscal conservative, believing that government should receive only the revenue necessary to satisfy requirements for services as allocated by the residents of this county.

        My qualifications include:  Four years experience as Business Manager of a college;  work with a City CPA in tax preparation and general accounting;  building construction accounting with Tubbs Properties, LLC -  Westcliffe;  Treasurer, Hope Lutheran Church - Westcliffe;  own High Peaks Accounting, LLC;  Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting andminor in Finance.

Julie Trombley has been a resident of Custer County for 8 years.  She has been married to her husband Steve for 10 years. The Trombley’s have 5 children, and 4 grandchildren.

Julie has owned her own business in the design field for over 30 years.  She also has owned and operated a B & B and a gift shop in Westcliffe.   With her background and having experience in all aspects of owning and operating successful businesses, assuming full responsibility of accounting and bookkeeping and believing in high priority customer service, Julie feels, given the opportunity, with her outgoing and friendly personality and willingness to help people, she would be a good candidate for Custer County Treasurer.

Arthor Nordyke

I have held this position since 1984 at which time I was appointed by the County Commissioners to fill a vacancy and have since been elected six times.

I was elected to serve on the Colorado Coroners' Board of Directors.

I am seeking re-election because I would like to serve Custer County again with my knowledge that I have acquired since I have been coroner.

I have lived here in the valley since 1977 and have a very strong and caring commitment for the people here in Custer County and would really appreciate your vote in the coming election

I have developed a good relationship with the Law Enforcement and Hospital District, which is a must in my job. I am a Certified Colorado Coroner and have investigated suicides/homicides/air plane accidents/ accidental deaths and natural causes. I have a continuing education class through the Colorado Coroners Association, which enables me to keep abreast of new information that I need to do my job better and to better, serve the people of Custer County

I will do my best to serve the people here in Custer County if I am re-elected.
